Cryotherapy for Verrucas & Skin Lesions
Cryotherapy
from £60

Cryotherapy using CryoPen® is a safe, precise, and highly effective treatment for verrucas and small skin lesions.
By delivering a controlled jet of nitrous oxide, CryoPen® rapidly freezes targeted tissue, destroying the affected cells while minimising damage to the surrounding healthy skin.
The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and requires little to no downtime, making it a convenient option for patients with busy lifestyles.
It is particularly well suited to treating verrucas, common warts, skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses and other benign lesions.
If you are New Patient with a verruca (or verrucas) please choose an Initial Assessment (New Patient) via online booking.
Cryosurgery is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the precise application of extreme cold. The process is called cryo-necrosis; tissue destruction by freezing.
Rapid freezing to -27 °C will cause cryonecrosis in all benign human tissues and ice crystals will form.
The ice crystals rupture the cell membrane and destroy the cells. Water then rushes into the surrounding area causing blistering and disruption of the local blood supply.
A typical freeze on viral infections may last from 5 to 10 seconds for a small flat wart, and up to 45 seconds for a full thickness plantar wart. For general purposes, most lesions take about 2 to 30 seconds.
Superficial lesions may only require one treatment, whereas verrucas and warts (deeper lesions) are may require a series of treatments.
Scarring is unlikely, but hypopigmentation (lighter skin discolouration) or hyperpigmentation (dark skin discolouration) is possible. This typically resolves within a few months. The relative risk of scarring will be dependent on the lesions being treated and your skin type, and this will be discussed with you as part of your assessment.
