What's in a qualification?

Felicity Burnell BSc. (hons) MInstChP
Podiatrist

I qualified from the University of Southampton in 2010.

I have extensive experience both within the NHS and private sector. Within the NHS, I specialised as a Community Diabetes Lead Podiatrist working in community clinics, the Churchill Hospital's diabetic foot clinic and domiciliary settings. I have previously had permanent roles within Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and have locumed in Greenwich, Ealing, Kensington, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire.

I waved goodbye to the NHS in June 2017 and provided private domiciliary treatment across Oxfordshire until July 2022.  I am delighted to announce from July 2022 I will be working at Raleigh Park Clinic, Oxford. I no longer home visits.

Further study in dermatoscopy & skin cancerdiabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics, kinesiology taping, casting techniques, acupuncture, sports massagex-ray and blood test interpretation, my previous life as a medical secretary and a further undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (University of Southampton, 2007) means I have a broad knowledge base that I can apply to each consultation.

Now I am clinic-based I am looking forward to offering a wider scope of treatments.  I am particularly interested in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and keeping fit and healthy at any age.  I'm passionate about keeping older people mobile so that they may maintain their independence.

This year I hope to extend my scope of practice to include skin surgery and corticosteroid injections.

Although I enjoy all aspects of the job, I have a particular talent for the painless* treatment of ingrowing toenails (both conservatively and surgically).

I really enjoy a challenge - so if you've got 'problem feet', you've come to the right place!

* or at least significantly less painful than you may be expecting!

BSc. (hons) - Bachelor of Science with honours.  This means the podiatrist has attended a recognised School of Podiatry and has studied for at least 3 years in order to attain a degree in podiatric medicine.

MInstChP - Member of the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.  The IOCP is a long established professional body representing podiatrists and chiropodists. Podiatrist, podiatry, chiropody & chiropodist are protected terms that may only be legally used by those who have attended a recognised School of Podiatry. The IOCP also provides public liability insurance.
